All members present except Johnny Frazier and Tim Edwards - With only four members present, the council approved the $11,500 General Obligation School Warrants to be paid back primarily by the Haleyville Board of Education over 30 years. The money will be used to construct the new middle school building. Work should begin in September with an 18 month completion time. 

• The council approved the planned street lights in the Gardens subdivision being built by Bob Masdon. The approval was for the city to pay for the  power to the lights once installed by Alabama Power. 

• Approval was made for the purchase of two pickups by the city from Northwest Gas. Both used trucks will cost approximately $8,000.

• The council approved the purchase of wood chips for the city playground.

• Roof gutters were approved for the Scout Hut. 

• Hubert Head was hired as the city hall custodian.

• With a recommendation from Fire Chief Phillip Weaver, the council voted to rescind pay for the assistant fire chief Jimmy Holley. Holley does not meet qualifications by the state to be paid as an assistant chief. 

• A letter from Calvin Cassady concerning the Alabama Avenue railroad bridge was read to the council. See letter with this report.

• Tommy and Sharon Thompkins, owners of Wakefield Furnishings asked the city to consider making the parking lot behind McDonalds be made available to them in order for them to build a new building and use the space for retail. Mayor Albright stated the council would look at the situation.

• The council's next scheduled meeting will be Tuesday, August 21, 6 p.m. at city hall.
